Crimestoppers Looking for Copper Wire Thieves

For the City-Times
Copper wire theft continues to be a problem in Portage County.
The most recent thefts came within the past week, when officers were called to both Worzalla and Sons and Jay-Mar in Plover to investigate stolen spools of wire.
The thieves had braved the subzero weather for strip electrical wire from irrigation equipment in agricultural fields, according to Sgt. Mike Lukas, who also said it could appear to passersby as though someone were performing work on the equipment. The number of thieves involved in the thefts are unknown and there is currently no vehicle description available the incidents as the two locations.
Lukas said anyone with information on the wire thefts or any other crime should contact Portage County Crime Stoppers at 1-888-346-6600. Callers can remain anonymous.
