Russell N. May, 93

Russell N. May, age 93, of Stevens Point, passed away on Thursday January 16, 2014, at the Portage County Health Care Center. Russell was born on December 14, 1920, in Sturgeon Bay, to the late Peter & Goldie (Nelson) May. He grew up in Sturgeon Bay and graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School in 1939. He served in the Coast Guard during WWII for six years and sailed on the Great Lakes for five years.
He married Marian Zelhofer on April 10, 1948. He and Marian resided in Elm Grove, for two years, Brookfield for 53 years. The couple moved to Stevens Point in 2008.
Russell received his Real Estate Brokers License in 1972. He was employed as an electrician with IBEW-Local 494, where he retired in 1983. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion. He enjoyed playing cards, watching sports, traveling and spending time with his family. Russell was a longtime blood donor and Boy Scout leader.
Survivors include his wife Marian May of Stevens Point, four sons, Ronald (Cathy) May of Verona, Steven (Lori) May of Stevens Point, Jeffrey May of Stevens Point, and Randall (Karen) May of Dousman.
He is also survived by seven grandchildren, three-great-grandchildren, a brother Herbert May of Appleton. Sister-in-laws, Rose May of Phoenix AZ, Florence May of Brookfield and Eleanor May of Pewaukee.
He was preceded in death by his brothers Virgil, Dean, Kenneth, Melvin, Vernon and Daniel.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday January 21, 2014, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Dennis Stanchik officiating. Full military honors will follow at the church. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery. Visitation on Tuesday from 9:00a.m. until time of service at the church. Pisarski/Dzikoski Funeral Home of Stevens Point is assisting the family with arrangements. In Lieu of flowers memorials in Russell’s name will be established at a later date.
