Baldwin to Announce ‘Green’ Legislation at Rapids MSTC
For the City-Times
U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin will visit four Wisconsin Technical Colleges this week to announce her new legislation aimed at job training and workforce readiness for high skilled jobs in clean energy.
On Wednesday, Baldwin will visit Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC), Lakeshore Technical College in Cleveland and Northeast Wisconsin Technical College (NWTC) in Green Bay. On Thursday, Baldwin will visit Mid-State Technical College (MSTC) in Wisconsin Rapids.
Baldwin will be joined by Morna Foy, President, Wisconsin Technical College System; Dr. Michael Burke, President, MATC; Dr. Mike Lanser, President, Lakeshore Technical College; Dr. H. Jeffrey Rafn, President, Northeast Wisconsin Technical College; and Sue Budjac, President of MSTC; as well as local area employers.
The Grants for Renewable Energy Education for the Nation (GREEN) Act allocates competitive grant funding for clean energy career and technical training programs so that students are better trained for post-secondary education and better equipped for the high-skilled jobs of the future.
Programs at the four colleges, including in sustainability, renewable energy, wind energy and energy management are strong examples of how Wisconsin Technical Colleges are already working to train students for green collar jobs. Baldwin will learn about these specific programs, tour several labs and hear from students, faculty, and local businesses.
Baldwin will visit the Wisconsin Rapids Mid-State Technical College Campus, 500 32nd St North, on Thursday, Jan. 23 from 11:45 AM- 12:45 PM.
