flagJerome “Jerry” Norbert Van Laanen, age 71, of Stevens Point, WI passed away Sunday, January 19, 2014, peacefully at St. Clare’s Hospital in Weston, WI surrounded by his family.

Jerry was born in Luxemburg, WI on July 8, 1942, to the late Cyrus & Marie (Rueckl) Van Laanen. His family includes John & Ruth, Jim & Kay, Kevin & Chris, Kris & Julie, Jackie & Bob Foster, Jean & Milt Van Lanen, Jane & Dave Ritter, Julie & Bob Jansch all from Green Bay. He married Robyn Reitmeier on September 4, 1965.

He was recognized for his many efforts in conservation including former president of Green Bay Duck Hunters Association, Harbor Commission, Wisconsin Wildlife Federation, Hunter Safety Instructor and other conservation efforts.  He was the founder, president & CEO of the Rainbow Creek Goose Hunting Club. He served in the United States Army Reserve and was employed at Eland Electric Company for many years & was a member of the IBEW union Local 158. 

He grew up in Luxemburg, WI, was a long term resident of Suamico, WI & retired in Stevens Point, WI. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed reading & spending time with his family.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Robyn Van Laanen; son, Eric (Jenny) Van Laanen of Wausaukee, WI; daughter, Kelly Van Laanen (Darrell Toliver) of Plover, WI. His Granddaughters are Brooke & Abby Van Laanen and Remington & Allison Wisinski. He was preceded in death by his parents and Brother, Jeff.

A memorial will be held on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at Riverside Ballroom in Green Bay, WI. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 with a memorial to follow.

In Lieu of flowers all donations will go to the educational programs at Barkhausen Waterfowl Preserve in Suamico, WI. Online condolences may be made at www.bostonfuneralhome.net.

The family would like to thank the Ministry Home Care & staff at St. Clare’s Hospital in Weston for their excellent care.
