Maurice “Mike” Eichendorf, 85

Maurice “Mike” Eichendorf age 85, of Plover, passed away Friday January 31, 2014 at Riverside Medical in Waupaca. 

A Mass of Christian Burial for Maurice will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday February 5, 2014 at St. Bronislava Catholic Church in Plover.  Rev. Monsignor Jeffrey D. Burrill will officiate.  Friends and relatives will gather to share memories from 9:00 AM – 10:15 AM Wednesday at the church.  Burial with full military honors will be in the parish cemetery.
Maurice was born July 12, 1928 in Stevens Point, the son of Joseph and Laura (Betker) Eichendorf.  He attended St. Peters School in Stevens Point, and Roosevelt School in Plover.  He also attended P. J. Jacobs High School before entering the United States Army on September 25, 1948.  He served in the occupational forces in Japan and also in Korea as a Weapons Infantry Leader.

In Japan, he served with the 1st Calvary, heavy mortar, 7th regiment.  In Korea, he served with I Company, 2nd Infantry Division, 23rd regiment.  He earned 2 bronze camp stars and combat infantry badge.  He fought on Bloody Ridge and Heartbreak Ridge. He was honorably discharged in July 1952 as a Sgt. First Class.
He married Ann Worzalla on May 9, 1953 at St. Bronislava Catholic Church. Maurice retired in 1994 from Basic American Foods.  He enjoyed all sports, watching birds, and took great pride in his manicured lawn.
Maurice was a proud member of American Legion Palash-Platt 543, VFW Post 10262, and the Disabled American Veterans Post 30.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years Ann, Plover,  Their son Michael Eichendorf, Stevens Point.  2 sisters: Carol Pliska, Plover and Joyce Farley, Clearwater, FL.  He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 infant sons, 1 infant daughter, 3 sisters, and 1 brother.
