The Stevens Point Plan Commission Monday night will consider the future of two city-owned properties which are currently vacant, and also whether to expand Sckmeeckle Reserve.
The city could possibly acquire a 38- acre parcel just northeast of the reserve which would serve as well field protection area and could also allow additional boardwalk space. According to city documents, the piece of land is currently privately owned and has an estimated value of $150,000. If plan commissioners approve the sale, the city could purchase the land with federal grant money from the Department of Agriculture/Forest Service, with the Green Circle and Schmeeckle Reserve footing half the bill.
The future of two other properties is also being considered tonight after various parties inquired about purchasing the lots.
One property is landlocked, located within the block between Michigan and Illinois Avenues just north of Prais Street, and the other, a 2,750 square- foot lot adjacent to a city-owned public parking lot on Water Street, which is currently listed for sale.
The City Plan Commission meets at Lincoln Center, 1519 Water Street, at 6 PM. The public is welcome to attend.
