The Village of Whiting on Tuesday will hold its monthly Board of Trustees meeting to consider an appeal from a recently- fired municipal employee.
The village’s Personnel Committee earlier this month approving firing one of its municipal employees for undisclosed reasons. Village President Paul Stroik told the City-Times last week he wouldn’t disclose the name or position of the employee, but did say the there have been ” ongoing problems” with the employee for the past few years.
By law the employee can appeal the committee’s decision, which will be discussed during closed session, but Tuesday’s decision will be final.
The Village Board has also included some last- minute items to its meeting agenda including a discussion on frozen municipal water pipes, a revision of hunting regulations and a possible update on the village’s snow removal agreement with Portage County.
The Board had planned to make time for Portage County Sheriff Candidate Kevin Sorenson, who has requested a formal introduction with the board during the meeting, but that meeting has been postponed until next month.
The Village of Whiting Board of Trustees meets at 7 PM on Tuesday, Feb. 11 in the Whiting Municipal Center, 3600 Water Street. The meeting is open to the public.
