Food Swings: Crock Pot Cola Pork

By Patrick Lynn
I’m not a family man, so when I cook I like things as simple as possible. I’m well past the age when frozen pizza will satisfy, and I’d really like the scent of a good meal wafting through the house at the end of my day. I think my mom’s Crock Pot Cola Pork (which is really fun to say out loud) is the perfect solution. It’s filling, it’s delicious and it involves my favorite beverage: Coke.
You will need:
And 1 Pork Shoulder (approx. 5lbs.)
2 eight oz. cans of Coke (or any Cola drink)
1 Packet of Poultry/Pork Seasoning
Adjust your crock pot to “low” setting and cook 2-4 hours, or until tears apart easily with forks (though don’t shred it just yet).
Remove meat and place in a serving dish.
In a separate bowl, mix:
Thinly sliced Onions
All of the Cola and Pork drippings from the Crock-Pot
1 tbsp. Ketchup
1 tbsp. Chile Powder
1 tbsp. Steak Sauce
1 tbsp. Corn Starch
salt/pepper to taste
