Updated: Power Restored in Point, Custer

City-Times Staff
About 5,000 residents in the Stevens Point Area were without power Friday during an outage that lasted about one hour.
The outage affected customers in Stevens Point, Plover, Whiting and various surrounding rural communities.
Wisconsin Public Service spokeswoman Kelly Zagrzebski said power was restored at 2:12 PM.
“The cause is a guide wire in the substation that failed,” Zagrzebski said.
She added the extended freezing weather experienced recently had no effect on the wiring.
