City-Times Staff
Two new deputies this morning joined the ranks of the Portage County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies Taylor Hecht, 22, and Marielle Yenter, 23, were sworn in this morning by Chief Deputy Daniel Kontos at an 8 AM ceremony.
After taking the oath of office, the two new officers received their badges and were turned over to their field training officer.
They now begin a nearly 600 hour- long one-on-one training program with a series of experienced trainers. These two new deputies should be certified for solo patrol in early to mid-May.
Deputy Hecht comes to the Sheriff’s office from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, where he was a deputy conservation warden. Deputy Yenter comes from Juno County where she was a deputy sheriff working in the corrections division.
