The third annual “Out on Screen” Film Festival will be held at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point throughout March and April, sponsored by the Faculty and Staff Gay-Straight Alliance.

The film screenings are free and open to the public. Each film begins at 7 p.m. in the Dreyfus University Center Theater, offering audiences the latest award-winning independent and feature films to explore the diversity of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ+) spectrum. “Out on Screen” is presented with support from UWSP’s Gender and Sexuality Alliance student organization.

The film series includes:

• Tuesday, March 4, “Reaching for the Moon” – Set in the 1950s, the film recounts Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Elizabeth Bishop’s move to Rio de Janeiro, where she falls in love with an architect and social activist. The film is in English and Portuguese, with English subtitles.
• Wednesday, March 5, “The New Black” – This documentary explores how the African-American community grapples with gay rights issues such as gay marriage, in light of the black community’s institutional pillar – the black church.
• Monday, March 10, “Test” – A 1985 period drama set in San Francisco, the film follows a young male dancer in a modern dance company and his friendship with another dancer in the troupe.
• Wednesday, March 12, “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?” – A lighthearted, comedic romp set in Taiwan, the film is about an introverted optometrist who begins to question his marriage and sets out to find true romance. In Mandarin, Korean and English, with English subtitles.

The festival will continue with six additional films through the second week of April. Titles include the documentary “Valentine Road” and the narrative films “Margarita,” “Kill Your Darlings,” “All About My Mother,” “Saving Face” and “G.B.F.”

The Faculty and Staff Gay-Straight Alliance aims to bring together LGBTQ+ individuals and their allies across campus to reduce fear, prejudice and discrimination.
