Historical Society to Air “Country School: One Room- One Nation”

The Portage County Historical Society is holding a free screening of the film Country School: One Room- One Nation.
The Emmy- nominated 2010 film will air March 19 at 6:30 PM in the Pinery Room of the Portage County Library, 1001 Main Street.
The film takes on immigration issues in early schools to the controversial demise of their widespread use in the 1950s and 1960s, combining visually stunning images of a myriad of restored and decaying buildings, including one designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, with humorous and heartwarming stories from former teachers and students.
The film also explores the dark side of the one-room school experience with commentary from one-room school historians and looks at multilingual classrooms, guns in school, school consolidation and closures.
