Trafficking Charges Expected After Drug Raid

City-Times Staff
Drug trafficking charges are expected to be filed after searches at two area homes turned up marijuana Friday in an early morning drug raid.
A joint force including Stevens Point and Plover police departments as well as the Portage County Sheriff’s Office executed search warrants at 1632 Main Street and 2308 Center Street only minutes apart early Friday morning.
According to a SPPD press release Monday, the Stevens Point SWAT team was called into action to secure both residences while investigators conducted their search.
“The Stevens Point SWAT team was utilized to execute the search warrants as a safety measure due to the risk of weapons which are commonly involved with drug- related offenses,” the press release stated.
The statement went on to say area detectives have been investigating individuals who reside at both addresses for drug- trafficking offenses, but have not yet released the names of those persons. Detective Sgt. Tony Babl of the SPPD has said the drug activity at the two homes is unrelated.
One person was taken into custody after he became “combative and assaulted a SWAT Officer” during the search of the Main Street residence. Two officers sustained minor injuries while taking the suspect into custody.
21 year-old Andrew Anderson of Stevens Point was charged with battery to law officers and booked into the Portage County Jail Friday morning but was released that afternoon.
Evidence of marijuana trafficking was discovered at both properties. The police department said in its statement “known individuals” from the two residences will be facing charges of possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, manufacturing THC, possession of drug paraphernalia and maintaining a drug trafficking residence.
