Glass sculptures that represent the emotional connections between people and objects will be on exhibit in the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point’s Edna Carlsten Gallery.

“A New Look at Glass,” featuring artist Jennifer Halvorson, will be displayed Sunday, March 9, through Monday, April 14, with a reception Monday, March 10, from 4-6 p.m. Located on the second floor of the Noel Fine Arts Center, the Carlsten Gallery is open to the public free of charge.

The pieces are designed to set a scene of collected memories, said Halvorson, while individual sculptures personify the objects.

“I aim to engage the viewers and their own memories,” she said, “with hopes they understand the tangled emotion of comfort and longing, and knowing that the markings of time have helped create who we are and prepare us for the future.”

Halvorson is an assistant professor at Ball State University’s Marilyn K. Glick Center for Glass. Her work has been featured by the Corning Museum of Glass and at an international exhibition in Chicago. She earned a fine arts degree at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, was a Fulbright Scholar in Denmark and earned a master’s degree in glass from the Rochester Institute of Technology. She also served as a resident at the Wheaton Arts and Cultural Center and a visiting scholar at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.

The Carlsten Gallery is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., on Thursday evenings from 7–9 p.m. and on Saturday and Sunday from 1–4 p.m. For more information, see www.uwsp.edu/art-design/Pages/Exhibitions/carlsten.aspx.
