Housing, Redevelopment Authorities Meet Next Week
City-Times Staff
The Stevens Point Housing and Redevelopment Authority Boards meet Tuesday.
The two groups emerged last December when the City of Stevens Point dissolved the much- debated Community Development Authority (CDA). That entity came under fire repeatedly after some complained about the group’s sovereignty and a lack of public comment during meetings.
The Housing Authority will operate primarily under state Housing and Urban Development (HUD) regulations. Appointees Louis Molepske, former city attorney, Hi-Rise resident Carita Onstad, Lee Beveridge, former chairman of the Stevens Point Historic Preservation/Design Review Commission, and Alderman George Doxtator will be charged with overseeing operations of public housing inside the city.
The Housing Authority will meet in the Solarium as Hi-Rise Manor, 1300 Briggs Court at 4 PM. The group will review the position of the board’s executive director position, currently held by Interim Director Donna Bella. The housekeeping policy for city housing properties will also be amended.
The Redevelopment Authority will meet in the City Conference Room, also at 4 PM on Tuesday.
The Stevens Point Redevelopment Authority (RDA) will continue to act as the CDA would have, in part handling blighted commercial and privately- owned properties in need of economic redevelopment.
RDA appointees include residents Cathy Dugan, Stephen Sawyer and Paul Adamski; Mayor Andrew Halverson and Alderman Randy Stroik; former Alderwoman Marge Molski and former Comptroller-Treasurer John Schlice.
The RDA will discuss environmental cleanup of the Lullabye Furniture property on Third Street, paid for in part with a $200,000 grant through the Wisconsin Ready for Reuse Grant Program. The city will fund up to $56,410.26 for the cleanup.
