Question by Stevens Point League of Women Voters
What background qualifies you for this position?
My accounting background, which is a Bachelor of Science Degree in Managerial Accounting from UWSP, along with my expertise as a detail oriented analyst for a health insurance company qualifies me for this position. These skills will help me in making the well-informed budgetary decisions the School Board handles routinely.
What strengths and interests do you bring to the board?
One of my strengths is my talent to interact effectively with people at all levels of an organization. I feel that this asset can help foster communications within the district. I am interested in helping the students of our district receive the best education that our system can provide for them.
As a board member, how would you foster a more positive public opinion of the board?
I would work on ensuring that the board completes matters in a productive considerate manner. I feel that incorporating the public in areas such as participation on committees or other forms of public input would help nurture favorable opinions about the board. This will allow the public to feel that they have a vested interest in ensuring our school district thrives.
What is your knowledge and understanding of the current public school funding situation in Wisconsin?
School districts throughout Wisconsin face funding challenges each year due to dwindling state aid and the fact that the districts can only increase the property tax levy through referendums. These two facts make it difficult for school districts to maintain the standard of education that we all are accustomed to.
