Letter: School Board Could Be Run by Junction City
To the Editor-
If the SPAEA (Stevens Point Area Educators Associate) and We Think We Are Central WI gets their way next month, 44% of our elected school board will hail from Junction City.
Why should you be alarmed?
About $33 million of our school budget is paid for by local property taxes. Stevens Point residents pay $13.2 million (40%). Plover residents pay 7.8 million (23%). Our, “never met a tax hike we didn’t like” friends from Junction City contribute a whopping $134,000 (.40%). Not a typo, folks, they pay the equivalent of less than two teachers’ salaries and benefits, and think they can run the show? Small wonder, it never affects their property taxes.
If this does not bother you, vote on. If it does, please consider electing people who actually have some skin in the game.
