Letter: Vote for County Exec Is a Privilege
To the Editor-
The privilege to vote, with the ability to express opinions and values with that vote, is the basis of any democracy. Considering that around the world people are willing to die for this right, and that we see how close elections can be on local and even national levels, I always feel honored and compelled to vote in every election I can.
With the next election coming up on April 1st, I encourage all eligible voters to get out and vote. I further encourage you to take the simple step to vote for Patty Dreier as County Executive. You may ask, why do this when she is running uncontested?
Casting your voting for Patty as County Executive demonstrates the continued support we have in the County Executive position. The benefit of this position is that it is the only one directly responsible to, and accountable to, all Portage County residents whether you live in a township, village or city. During the past four years I have seen the benefits of having a central leader looking out for all aspects of our community, and having a leader that can provide checks and balance with our local government. We, as a community, get to directly hire the person with the necessary skills and vision we desire and need.
If this race was contested, why would I still vote for Patty Dreier? Patty has the great combination of proven leadership that emphasizes building partnerships and collaboration. She strives to involve the whole county, as her numerous listening sessions have demonstrated. As further examples, I am proud of the direction Portage County is taking under her leadership by approving a master strategic plan, combining dispatch services, and addressing physical space needs with a longer-range view. Patty’s work always emphasizes transparency and accountability. She realizes our resources are limited, whether they be human, financial or natural and that we must be creative in looking for solutions.
So this April 1st be sure to vote, and please cast your vote for Patty Dreier as County Executive.
