The Portage County Sheriff’s Office will be holding classes in April for Concealed Carry Weapons (CCW) as well as the Basic Handgun Course.

The class is taught by Sheriff’s Deputies who are certified Department of Justice Firearm Instructors. The class was developed specifically for the state’s CCW permit application.

The cost of the CCW class is $40. This class will be held on Saturday April 26, 2014 from 8 AM- noon at the Portage County Annex in conference rooms 1 and 2.

The Basic Handgun Course run from 1- 3:20 PM at the Portage County Law Enforcement Range. Topics for this class include shooting stance, grip, sight picture, loading, unloading, malfunctions, and firing.

Students will need to bring a firearm and approximately 50 rounds of ammunition. The cost for that course is $25 per student.

Individuals taking both classes will be charged a total of $50.

For more information and to register call the Sheriff’s Office at 715-346-1444. For more general information on Wisconsin’s CCW law and permit information visit the Portage County Sheriff’s Office website at www.co.portage.wi.us/sheriff.
