State Senate to Consider Heroin Bill
City-Times Staff
A state Senate committee is set to hold a public hearing on a bill to combat heroin use.
The bill would require the state Dept. of Corrections to create a new, faster system of sanctions for heroin addicts so they don’t automatically return to prison when they break conditions of their parole or probation.
The proposal was introduced by Rep. John Nygren from Marinette. He said the new system would help heroin addicts get treatment quicker.
The State Assembly passed the bill in February and the Senate’s public safety committee will hold a public hearing and vote this week.
The full Senate could vote on the issue April 1.
