Florian J. “Smokey” Ramcheck, 91

flagFlorian J. “Smokey” Ramcheck, 91, of Stevens Point, died Sunday, March 30, 2014, at the Portage County Health Care Center.

He was born on April 22, 1922, in Stevens Point, to the late Frank and Magdalene (Aron) Ramcheck.

Florian entered the U.S. Army on May 26, 1945, in Milwaukee, serving in Germany as a lineman and earning the Army of Occupation Medal and World War II Victory Medal. His honorable discharge, at the rank of private first class, took place on May 23, 1947, at Ft. Dix, New Jersey.

His marriage to Elaine Repinski-Milcharek took place on May 16, 1970, at St. Peter Catholic Church in Stevens Point. Elaine died on Sep. 25, 1977.

He had worked for Meronek Plaster, Stevens Point Journal and bartended around Stevens Point for many years. His interests included playing cards at The Jug and gardening. He enjoyed his 21 nieces and nephews.

Survivors include his sisters, Verna McFadden of Chicago, Illinois, and Delores (Michael) Franklin of Darian; brothers, Raymond (Ursula) Ramcheck of Whiting, and Chester (Dorothy) Ramcheck of Kenosha; and his 21 nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, Florian was preceded in death by his brother, George; and sisters, Frances, Mary, Gertrude, Alice and Helen.

The Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 4, 2014, at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Mill Creek. Fr. Dennis Stanchik will officiate. Burial with full military honors will follow in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be at the church on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time for Mass.
