A man from Oshkosh is in hot water after police say he stole a security guard’s vehicle then crashed into the future site of Great Lakes Higher Education building Monday morning.

Shawn Funmaker, 22 of Oshkosh, was is expected to be formally charged with vehicle theft, second-offense drunken driving and a felony count of criminal damage to property. Funmaker appeared in court Monday afternoon and was held on $750 bond.

According to police documents, Funmaker jumped into a running vehicle that belonged to a security guard in front of the former Dunham’s building at the corner of Third Street and Centerpoint Drive around 1:40 AM Monday. He then crashed into the building, causing about $1,000 to the vehicle and about $2,500 in damage to the building.

Officers later found Funmaker, who had fled the scene, hiding behind dumpsters in the downtown area.

Funmaker returns to court on April 14.
