Sheriff’s Office: Roads Not Bad Locally, But Traffic Blocked to the North
City-Times Staff
The Portage Co. Sheriff’s Office reports Friday morning that most major roadways have been spared from hazardous conditions predicted by the Dept. of Transportation earlier this week.
Roadways north of the Portage/Marathon County line are ice- covered and slick, though.
The Sheriff’s Office also reports a semi-truck rollover on I-39 north near the 186 mile marker near Rothschild and traffic is temporarily blocked. The tractor driver reportedly lost control while traveling over the icy bridge and landed on its right side, completely blocking both lanes. Emergency crews are having trouble getting around the wreckage.Traffic is being routed north on Business 51 through Rothschild, on to Highway 29 west and then back to Highway 51.
Highway 29 west of Highway 13 is hazardous, and the Sheriff’s Office is not advising travel along that route.
Updates as we have them.
