Alice B. Crowell, age 99 of Stevens Point, died April 7, 2014 at Emeritus at Oakridge while surrounded by her family.

Alice was born September 2, 1914 to the late William & Marguerite (Bouteiller) Higgins in Boston, MA. She graduated from Foxborough High School in 1933 and later attended a year of business school.

She acquired a secretarial position with John Hancock Insurance Company before marrying Merle Crowell in 1947 in Roxbury, MA. She later became employed with the Sharon School System in 1960. Alice worked for the school system for 13 years before retiring in 1973. Following retirement, Alice and Merle settled in Boynton Beach, FL. Alice later moved to Stevens Point in 2002 to be closer to family.

Alice will be remembered for her independent nature and love of life. She approached life on her own terms and enjoyed taking the path least traveled. She had a passion for Opera and enjoyed listening to Saturday afternoon broadcasts. Alice had an appreciation for high fashion and liked maintaining stylish appearance. Alice also enjoyed staying active. In her earlier years, she was captain of her high school basketball team and took pride in her athletic ability. Alice loved international travel. She was lucky to have traveled to all 50 states, as well as visiting numerous countries abroad. In her spare time, she enjoyed cross-stitching, knitting, & shopping. Her true passion was her family, and valued spending time with them.

She is survived by her children, Alison (Gary) Mullins of Stevens Point and Cynthia (Alan) DeForest of Kingston, NY; and grandchildren, Jonathan (Angela) Schmenk, Gretchen (Chris) Niedbalski, Adam (Jennifer) Schmenk, Danielle DeForest, Laura (Gus) Parra, & Whitney (Adam) Duby. She is also survived by her great grandchildren, Jacob, Joshua, & Henry Niebalski; Isabel, Theodore, & Anna Schmenk; and Addisyn, Jordyn, & Colton Duby.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Merle; father, William; step-father, Henry Buhle; and mother, Marguerite.

A service will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 11, 2014 at Boston Funeral Home. A time of visitation will precede the service from 10:00 a.m. to time of service at the funeral home.

Memorial may be made to support the MET Broadcast Metropolitan Opera House, 30 Lincoln Center, New York, New York 10023, and Attention: Honorary Gifts and Memorial Gifts or online at metoperafamily.org. Online condolences may be made at www.bostonfuneralhome.net.
