Genevieve “Gen” Swiander, 89
Genevieve “Gen” Swiander, age 89 of Whiting, passed away Sunday evening April 6, 2014 at St. Michaels Hospital. Gen has been residing at Wellington Place for the past 7 years.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Gen will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday April 10, 2014 at St. Bronislava Catholic Church in Plover. Rev. Monsignor Jeffrey D. Burrill will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 – 10:45 AM at the church before the Mass. Shuda Funeral Service is assisting the family.
Gen was born February 13, 1925 in the Town of Stockton, the daughter of Joseph and Verona (Herek) Kurkowski. She married Michael Swiander on June 5, 1948 in Fancher. The couple settled in Whiting and raised their family. Gen worked at various potato farms in the area for over 30 years. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, coloring, going to the casino, but most of all loved her family.
Gen is survived by her four children: Loretta Michelkamp, Stevens Point; Joseph Swiander, Plover; Elaine (Jerry) Wierzba, Stevens Point; Rita (Gary Folck) Kurszewski, Wisconsin Rapids. 14 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Two sisters: Theresa Turzinski, Stevens Point and Ceil Pehowski, Jackson, WI. One brother: Chester Kurkowski, Stevens Point. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Michael in 1980, 1 grandson, 5 brothers, and 1 sister.
