John Stuart Burns, 96

It is with great sadness we share the death of our loved one, John, age 96, of Stevens Point, died on Wednesday April 9, 2014, at Ministry St. Joseph Hospital Marshfield.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday April 14, 2014, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Jerzy Rebacz officiating. Burial will follow in the Guardian Angel Cemetery. Visitation on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at the church. John was born on March 20, 1918 in South Bend Indiana to Dr. John Stuart Burns and Ruth (Lee) Burns. He attended grade school and high school in Corvallis Oregon. He graduated from Oregon State and received his Masters at Berklee.

John then traveled to Turkey to teach chemistry for four years at the American College of Tartus and later acting head of the chemistry department at Robert College at Istanbul, when coming home from Turkey in 1945 he married Jeanne (Fox) Burns. He was married to Jeanne for 58 years. On October 29, 2005, he married Shirley (Suplicki) Burns.

John worked for Alcoa for a number of years, he then became CEO of Genstar Conservation Systems being Transferred to Vancouver B.C.  Canada.

John enjoyed reading and lapidary work. He loved telling stories of all his adventures around the world.  He was a brilliant man and loving man.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Burns; two sons, Jack Burns and Robert Burns and one daughter, Mary Lee (Marc Herrmann) Burns. One step-son, Patrick (Brenda) Suplicki and two step-daughters, Pamela (Dr. David Brilowski) and Lynn (Dr. John Whittle). Also survived by five grandchildren and eight step-grandchildren.

John lived every day to the fullest, loving caring, giving and sharing. He was a wonderful father, step-father and grandfather. He is now out of pain and with God and we are so pleased that he died so gracefully.
