School Board Vice President Angel Faxon is proposing a new deadline and process for the superintendent’s annual review.
The board is slated to perform Superintendent Attila Weninger’s review in June. Board policy currently dictates the superintendent’s job performance must be complete by June 30 of each year.
In a memo to the full board, Faxon explains that during an election year, new board members who’ve had little interaction with the superintendent would be expected to participate in that review. This year, that means outgoing board members Bob Larson and Terry Rothmann would not have a voice in that review process, while newly-elected board members Trish Baker and Alex Kochanowski would have only a few months of experience to draw from. That doesn’t make much sense, she said.
“I am proposing we ask our outgoing board members, Terry Rothman and Bob Larson, to complete the superintendent’s evaluation for the 2013-2014 school year, and allow their results to be presented along with the board’s full evaluation in June,” Faxon said in her memo. “While our new board members, Patricia Baker and Alex Kochanowski, will be present for the evaluation this year, it would be as ex officio/non-participation only.
Faxon also suggests changing the due date of the annual review to March 30 beginning with the next school year.
The board meets at 6:30 PM on Monday, April 14 at Bliss Education Center. The meeting is open to the public.
