Wine and Cheese Event had Record- Breaking Year

The Boys & Girls Club of Portage County hosted their 10th annual Portage County Taste of Wine & Cheese event on April 4, and it was another record-breaking year and a night that won’t soon be forgotten.

With over 100 different types of wine, 3 different local breweries, a special bourbon tasting, a dozen specialty cheeses, delicious desserts, a silent auction, and a raffle, this event has always been a big hit in the community.

Each year, this event continues to grow, and this year was no different.  It was their largest and first-ever, sold-out crowd with 820 attendees while the event raised a record-breaking amount of $97,500.  However, the Boys & Girls Club staff and committee volunteers realize that the success of this event would not be possible without the support of over 150 local businesses and several community members.  Thanks to the generous support the Boys & Girls Club receives through this event, the organization is able to serve 250-350 youth each day, and is able to continue to be a safe and positive place for kids.  From the bottom of our hearts, we want to extend a huge thank you to this community for helping us open new doors of opportunity for the youth that we serve!  We know that it takes a whole community to raise a child, and we couldn’t do it without each of you.

We are already anxiously awaiting next year’s event, so save the date for Friday, April 3rd, 2015.  We hope to see you there!

Today, thanks to the generous support of the Portage County community, the Boys & Girls Club of Portage County serves 1200-1500 youth per year, with 7 site locations scattered across Portage County.  For only $10 per year, any child can attend the Boys & Girls Club after school and all day during the summer months.  We hope that you, as a community member, will join us in supporting the youth of Portage County that we serve!
