Update: School Day Goes on As Usual, Classes Not Cancelled

By Brandi Makuski
Officials with the Stevens Point Public School District Monday were dealt an unexpected blow when an overnight snow storm knocked out power to nearly 7,000 households- including four public schools.

SPASH, as well as the alternative high school downtown, Jefferson, Kennedy and Madison elementary schools as well as P.J. Jacob’s Junior High all reported not having power Monday morning.
District leaders say power was restored to all area schools by 9:20 AM.
Sarah O’Donnell, who works in the superintendent’s office, said “another decision” regarding classes would have been made if the power was not restored by the time.
“For now it’s classes as usual,” O’Donnell said Monday.
A Twitter post from WPS says the outage is weather- related. At 9:30 AM, almost 3,000 WPS customers were still without power. By 10:30 AM, that number had reduced to about 40.
