The Stevens Point Public Protection Committee Monday night will consider partial and temporary closures of area roads for various events this spring.
Portage County CAN is holding a Bike to Work Day community event on May 16 and is requesting the loop on the downtown square be closed to traffic on May 16 from 3- 5:30 PM. The event includes a bike rodeo, family bike ride led by Mayor Andrew Halverson and a city bike ride with County Executive Patty Dreier. WYTE radio host AJ will also be involved in the city ride.
Also on May 16th is the Arts Alliance Mass Guitar Incident and Arts Walk. Officials from the Arts Alliance are requesting partial closure of Main Street between Strongs and Third from 4:30-8 PM.
The United Way is also requesting partial closure of portions of Illinois and Michigan avenues for its annual Run, Bike, United Duathlon on August 23. That event runs from 6-11:30 AM.
The board tonight will also consider a request from SentryWorld to keep 8 swans on the golf course. In a memo to the city, officials from SentryWorld say they have filed the appropriate permits and applications for the muted swans with the Department of Natural Resources.
