Thanks in part to a weekend of rain and almost four inches of snow since Sunday, just shy of 7,000 households in the Stevens Point area are without power.
The outages are likely weather- related, according to Wisconsin Public Service.
Scattered outages have been reported in various areas throughout the night, but this morning 6,900 households inside the city are without power, along with 23 in Plover.
Two area schools are also without power. Bliss Education Center confirmed Monday morning that Jefferson Elementary and SPASH were both in the dark, but classes would continue as usual. Calls to those schools went unanswered Monday.
UWSP also reports having lost power.
Heavy and wet overnight snowfall has knocked down power lines and left roadways snow-covered and slippery. Officials from the Portage Co. Sheriff’s Office are asking motorists to use caution.
A representative from WPS says crews are out working on the problem. No restoration time has been announced.
