Village of Plover officials witnessed something unusual at Wednesday’s board meeting: a junior high student in the audience.
Plover resident Aaron Weiss, 12, is a 7th grade student at Ben Franklin Junior High. He attended the meeting with his mother, Erika, to satisfy a requirement for a scouting merit badge. Weiss is a member of Boy Scout Troop 201 which meets at St. Bronislava.
Weiss said he was working on his Citizenship in the Community badge, which requires a series of steps relating to learning about municipal government, the court system, taxes and important community issues. Weiss will also be required to volunteer for a local charitable organization that benefits the community and assemble a presentation for his troop on what he’s learned.
Weiss listened as the Village Board discuss several issues Wednesday night, including a donation for the Pacelli Project Graduation event, a storm water project for the Highway 54/Maple Drive roundabout and planned tree planting for the new Bus. 51 remodel in Plover. It was a lot for a 12 year-old to take in, but Weiss said he learned a lot.
“I learned a lot about the prices of stuff,” Weiss said. “I didn’t think they would all be that high.”
