Jeanette Rogers, 84, of Stevens Point, died at home on Tuesday, April 22, 2014.

Jeanette was born September 5, 1929, in Wisconsin Rapids, to Joseph and Jennie (Peterson) Maurer.

After graduating from Cadott High School in 1947, Jeanette moved to Stevens Point. She attended what is now the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point and was employed at the former Citizens National & First National Bank. In the 1980s, she and Lorrie Neale owned and operated The Treasure Chest Boutique in the Sentry Insurance World Headquarters Building.

Jeanette married former Stevens Point Journal Editor and Portage County Gazette columnist George Rogers at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Cadott, Wisconsin on December 30, 1950. George preceded her in death on November 4, 2013.

Volunteering was very important to Jeanette. She was the Riverfront Arts Center’s first volunteer and served on the Board of the Arts Center. She also gave her time to Operation Bootstrap, St. Michael’s Hospital, Start Making a Reader Today (SMART) and St. Stanislaus Parish Bingo. Jeanette especially enjoyed visits with family and friends. The coffee pot was always ready at her home to welcome visitors.

Surviving are her two children, James, Milwaukee, and Jane (Jerry Pearling), Portland, Ore., a brother, John Maurer, Snellville, Ga., and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Paul, Roger and Peter Maurer.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, with her nephew Rev. William Menzel officiating. Visitation will also be held at the church on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow in St. Stephens Cemetery.

Donations in Jeanette’s honor may be made to the Riverfront Arts Center or St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish. Online condolences may be made at www.bostonfuneralhome.net.

Her children are grateful for the care provided by Ministry Hospice and for the outpouring of love and support from family and friends, especially during her illness.
