SPASH Panthers Announce ‘George Roman Day’

A local football legend and beloved SPASH history teacher who died last year is being honored in early May.
Thursday, May 8th has been pronounced “George Roman Day”. Roman will be honored at 4:45 PM during a pre-game ceremony before Panthers baseball players take on Wisconsin Rapids in a key Wisconsin Valley match-up.
Members of the Roman Family will be on hand to throw out ceremonial first pitches.
Coach Roman served as the head baseball coach at SPASH from 1979 – 2004 and posted a record 418 wins and only 120 losses. Of those 418 wins, 3 were in WIAA Division 1 State Championship games in 1979, 1987, and 1989.
At the time of his retirement, George was the winningest coach in Wisconsin Spring Baseball History. Coach Roman is remembered as an respected and formidable competitor and teacher.
The 2014 SPASH Baseball team will also recognize Coach Roman by wearing hats that have “GR” stitched on the side. These hats will be available for Friends of SPASH Baseball to purchase.
