School Board to Weigh Options of District- Owned Junction City Land
By Donnelly Clare
The Stevens Point School Board on Monday will discuss the future of a parcel of district- owned land in Junction City.
Director of Business Services Tom Owens said he was contacted in early April by someone interested in purchasing a 1- acre portion of the land located at Victory Drive and Stashek Road in Junction City. The district has owned that and 79 adjoining acres since 1941.
But the possible sale of that land has hit a speed bump, as the district’s official ownership of that property could be in dispute.
The Portage Co. GIS (geographic information system) has listed the district as the property owner for over 70 years, but officials from the Portage Co. Register of Deeds office say to date they’ve been unable to locate the deed.
The Board on Monday night will consider how to proceed, and how much money could be allocated to settling the matter.
The School Board meets at 6:30 PM on Monday, April 28 at Bliss Education Center, 1900 Polk Street. The public is welcome.
