Maxine H. Pike, 84
Maxine H. Pike, age 84, of Stevens Point, died April 28, 2014 at St. Joseph Hospital in Marshfield, WI.
Maxine was born August 7, 1929 to the late John and Esther (Leuthaeuser) Thede in Palmer, NE. She attended Zion Lutheran School in Worms, NE and graduated from Palmer High School.
Maxine worked in Grand Island, NE and Cedar Rapids, IA after graduation.
She married Richard Pike on September 1, 1957.
Maxine and Dick moved to Stevens Point in 1970. She completed coursework in early childhood education in 1972. Maxine worked at several area child care centers, including St Paul Lutheran Preschool and Hometown Daycare. In 1981, Maxine and Dick relocated to Appleton, WI where she continued to work in her chosen field. In 1988, they moved back to their beloved city of Stevens Point and she continued her work in childcare. After retirement, Maxine continued her commitment to helping others by volunteering with St. Michaels Hospital PACE program and Operation Bootstrap.
Maxine will be remembered for her dedication to helping others and her enthusiasm for organization. Faith was extremely important to Maxine and she was a dedicated member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. In her spare time, Maxine relished attending the theater and local symphony performances, in addition to cheering on UWSP Basketball. She also loved to travel. Maxine enjoyed seizing opportunities to be able to travel abroad, as well as domestically.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Dick; children, Beth (Leigh) Smith of Stevens Point, Julie (Jeff) Hoffman of Santa Monica, CA, and John (Sarah) of Fargo, ND. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Collin of Madison and Lauren of Minneapolis, as well as many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, and one sister, Doris Thede.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 5, 2014 at St Paul Lutheran Church with Rev. Thomas Petersen officiating. A time of visitation will also be held at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
