NEW: SPPD to Get Armored Vehicle
For the City-Times
The Stevens Point Police Department has received notice that, among several other jurisdictions in Wisconsin, it will be receiving a Caiman MRAP military surplus vehicle.
The Police Department applied for the vehicle through the 10-33 Program and was recently approved to receive one. Transportation of the vehicle from Texas is the main cost associated with obtaining this vehicle which is approximately $4,500 and is funded by asset forfeitures.
The Caiman Vehicle is well suited to support our officers in this area for Officer / Citizen Rescue incidents, flooding and disaster response as well as tactical situations.
The vehicle is scheduled to arrive in early May.
