Jerome A. Kranig, 85, of Stevens Point, passed away on Monday, April 28, 2014, at his winter home in Hollywood, Florida.

He was born on Feb. 9, 1929, in Marshfield, to the late Vincent and Matilda (Busch) Kranig and was a 1947 graduate of P.J. Jacobs High School.

Jerome entered the U.S. Army in 1951 and served in the 8^th Army Artillery in Korea. He was honorably discharged in 1952 as a Sergeant First Class and received the U.S. Defense Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Battle Stars, Overseas Service Medal, Pacific Victors Medal, United Nations Service Medal, President Rhee’s 50^th Anniversary Korean War Medal, Combat Artilleryman’s Badge, Good Conduct Medal and the Expert Rifleman Medal.

He was married to Barbara Orgish on Sep. 4, 1954. He was employed by Kleenaire Corp. beginning in 1945 and later worked for Consolidated Papers from 1961 until his retirement in 1991.

His affiliations included being a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Catholic Order of Foresters, Knights of Columbus and Past Grand Knight, 4^th Degree Knights of Columbus, American Legion and Past County Commander, 40 et 8 and Past Chef de Gare, Elks Club and Model A Club of America. He also enjoyed reading history of the Korean War, railroading, classical music, stock car racing and he was an avid old time music fan.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara of Stevens Point; his children, David (Darlene) Kranig of Merrill, Diane (Ken Sankey) Kranig of Stevens Point, and Donna (Joel Callan) Kranig Brown of Milwaukee; grandchildren, Genevieve “Geena” (Ben Brandl) Sankey, Giselle (Justin Diser) Sankey, Hannah Brown, Lucas Brown; many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Jerome was preceded in death by his brothers, Lawrence, Sylvester and Clarence; and sister, Rita Pelowski.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Jerome’s name will be established to the American Legion Child Welfare Foundation or St. Stanislaus Catholic Church-Stevens Point.

The Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 5, 2014, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church with the Rev. Thomas Lindner officiating. Full military honors will follow at church. Burial will take place in Maine Cemetery, Plover. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at Pisarski/Dzikoski Funeral Home, 703 Second St., Stevens Point, and again on Monday morning at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time for Mass.
