McKinley Students Help City Celebrate Arbor Day
City-Times Staff
Officials from the City of Stevens Point held an Arbor Day ceremonial tree planting at Forest Cemetery on Friday, with help from McKinley 4th grade students.
The National Arbor Day Association has recognized the city as a Tree City USA for the 33rd year, and has awarded Stevens Point its 13th Tree City USA Growth Award. To qualify to be a Tree City USA, municipalities must have a Tree Board, adopt a Community Tree Ordinance, have Community Forestry Program, and have an Arbor Day Celebration. The Growth Award was created to recognize environmental improvements and higher levels of tree care in Tree City USA communities.
