Sentry to Update Downtown Parking Lot
By Patrick Lynn
Sentry Insurance is planning to reconstruct their parking lot on Strongs Avenue.
The project includes repaving and increasing green space between the lot and the sidewalk. The construction will take place this summer.
The project comes before the Stevens Point Plan Commission Monday for approval.
According to city documents, the company plans to expand the perimeter landscaping to the required five feet, which would bring the existing parking lot up to code. Currently, a portion of the south side of the parking lot abuts the sidewalk.
Currently the lot has 326 parking spaces but is considered a “constrained site” under city ordinance, which allows the company to operate the lot with fewer than the otherwise- required 416 stalls. The Strongs Avenue location of Sentry is 124,737 square feet.
Information included in the landscaping request indicates Sentry is expanding and plans to add 15 staff associates to that location.
The City Plan Commission meets at 6 PM on Monday at the Lincoln Center, 1519 Water St. The public is welcome.
