A sex offender who served less than 4 years for assaulting a child under the age of 13 is being released from prison, according to a press release from the Stevens Point Police Department.
Brent J. Broeske, 22, was 19 when he was convicted and sentence to 4 years in state prison by Judge John Finn for first degree sexual assault of a child under 13. He is being released in the Stevens Point area on May 20 and is not wanted by police at this time.
As a condition of his release Broeske must register as a sex offender and comply with assigned treatment. He also must avoid all contact with his victim and maintain absolute sobriety. Broeske is under extended supervision for another 4 years.
The Stevens Point Police Department is releasing the information in accordance with Wisconsin Statute 301.46, which authorizes law enforcement agencies to inform the public of a sex offender’s release to enhance public safety, awareness and protection.
Sex offenders have always lived in our communities, but it was not until the Sex Offender Registration and Community Notification Law was enacted that law enforcement was able to share this information with the community. Citizen abuse of this information to threaten, intimidate or harass registered sex offenders will not be tolerated.
