Melvin A. Walstra, 85, passed away in Stevens Point, WI on May 7, 2014. He was born in Walworth County, WI on August 15, 1928 to Sipka and Mabel Schacht Walstra. He married Ardis Hill on March 31, 1951 at Fontana Community Church.

“Pete” was a member of Faith Evangelical Church, Walworth, WI. He served in the Army during the Korean War. An avid sports fan, the New York Yankees were his favorite team. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially gardening and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Ardis; two daughters, Jill (John) Thom, Stevens Point, WI and Sue Maier, Stevens Point, WI; a son, Peter, Boulder, CO; grandchildren, Nathaniel (Sarah) Thom, Wheaton, IL; Emily Thom, Milwaukee, WI; Christopher and Timothy Maier, Stevens Point, WI; Steffanie Walstra, Denver, CO; Peter Hill Walstra and Molli Walstra, Boulder, CO; three great-grandsons, Noah, Asher, and Titus Melvin Thom (born May 4, 2014 – named in honor of great grandpa), Wheaton, IL; sister-in-law, Mary Castle, Whitewater, WI; brother-in-law, Tom Hill, Fontana, WI; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, George and Kenneth; and a niece, Tobie Walstra.

Memorials may be sent to Faith Lutheran Church, Walworth, WI.
