Central State Chamber Orchestra Performs for Last Time
The final concert for the CSCO also marked the final concert for David Becker, who will retire after nearly 40 years as a professional musician and teacher. Becker currently serves as Professor of Violin at the Aber Suzuki Center on the UWSP campus.
“Back in the late 1960s, William Dick, a viola professor at UWSP, founded and conducted a central Wisconsin youth symphony,” Becker told the crowd. “I still have fond memories of playing exciting symphonic repertoire with that orchestra and it was those memories that inspired me, some 30 years later, to found the CSCO.”
Becker founded the CSCO in 1999 with the idea of providing the members of the orchestra, comprised of junior and high school students, the opportunity to perform a large and varied repertoire that they might not be exposed to in their school programs. Through the years the orchestra has performed for audiences at Suzuki recitals, Music of the Masters events, and annual holiday concerts at the Lincoln Senior Center.
“It has been an honor making music with all of the talented young musicians who have played with the CSCO for the past 15 years. Words cannot express my appreciation for the time and dedication these fine young musicians have devoted to the success of the CSCO,” said Becker.
