Madam President: Faxon Takes Reigns on School Board
By Donnelly Clare
Angel Faxon on was elected as School Board President on Monday, beating out Jeff Presley after one vote in a 5-4 split.
Faxon, a resident of Plover with several children in public school, is serving her first term on the Board and was elected in 2012. She becomes the fourth Board Preident in as many years, following Terry Rothmann’s one- year stint in the position, and before that Dwight Stevens and Renae Sheibley.
Board Member Jeff Presley was voted in as vice president by a vote of 6-3 over School Board veteran Chris Scott.
The positions of Board Clerk and Treasurer took longer to fill. A slew of nominations for those spots were turned down by Board Members until newcomer Alex Kochanowski was elected as treasurer and Trish Baker is the Board’s new clerk.
Both Kochanowski, a member of the Stevens Point Police Auxiliary and a city transit worker, and Baker, the Portage Co. Clerk of Courts, were elected to the Board in April.
