Police on Monday afternoon have confirmed one man has been arrested after a vehicle pursuit on the west side of Stevens Point.
According to SPPD Assistant Chief Tom Zenner, officers were dispatched to a home near West River Drive to conduct a welfare check.
“There was an individual we were trying to get some information on, and investigating that turned into a low-level vehicle pursuit which went out into the county,” Zenner said Monday. “We did make a traffic stop on that individual and he did pull over, and we do have him in custody.”
Zenner added he did not know the nature of the welfare check and very little information was currently available. He also did not know if the man would be charged with any crimes, but officers did make a presence in the neighborhood because “you always plan for the worst, and you just never know what to expect.”
Zenner also said further information would be forthcoming from SPPD as it becomes available.
He added as of 6 PM, the arrest was still very recent and interviews were still being conducted by police.
