Olive Jane Ryskoski Hintz, age 89, Stevens Point, of Oakridge, died 6:15pm, May 20, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield with loved ones at her side.

Olive was born February 27, 1925 in Ashland, Ohio, daughter of the late John & Olive (Paine) Turner. As an infant Olive moved to Wauwatosa, WI and then on to Stevens Point where she attended the local grade schools. In 1942 she graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School. During World War II Olive worked for O.S.S. in Washington, D.C. returning to Stevens Point in 1945.

On January 11, 1947 Olive married Vincent A. Ryskoski. He preceded her in death June 3, 1973.

On October 15, 1977 Olive married Irving Hintz at St. Stephen’s Church. Irving died October 10, 2002.

Olive worked for Sentry Insurance for 34 years while making a home for the Ryskoski children and later the Hintz children. Olive enjoyed going to all the children and grandchildren’s activities, weddings, and concert events. She was active in her church, always ready to give a helping hand or a ride to whoever was in need. Olive was an active volunteer at various community organizations for many years; as a member of R.S.V.P. she went to schools and county fairs demonstrating how to churn butter or make ice cream.

Olive loved animals and birds; and through the Portage County Humane Society’s Pet Therapy Program, she took animals to visit at the County Home. Olive loved to read and shared this love with local school children by helping them to become better readers.

Olive was preceded in death by her grandparents; parents; sister, Inez Smith; niece, Susan O’Donnell; stepson, Harold Ryskoski; husband, Vincent Ryskoski; husband, Irving Hintz; granddaughter, Jamie Sue Burgess; and step sons, Carl Ryskoski & Donald Ryskoski.

Survivors include son, George (Joyce) Burgess of Baraboo; grandson, Wayne (Jodi) Burgess; great-granddaughter, Jenna of Lodi; niece, Sandra Mortensen of Baraboo; seven stepchildren, Claudine Gotter of Eau Claire, Norman (Janice) Ryskoski of Green Bay, Robert (Carol) Ryskoski of Sheboygan, Mary (Bob) Patoka of Amherst Junction, John (Jennifer) Hintz of Plymouth, Donna (Mike) Aschenbrenner of Custer, Paul (Erin) Hintz of Stevens Point; and step daughter-in-laws, ElJane Ryskoski of Stevens Point & Patricia Ryskoski of Green Bay. She is further survived by 29 step-grandchildren; 36 step-great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren.

A Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at St James Catholic Church in Amherst, WI with Rev. Jude Dioka officiating. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until time of the Funeral Mass. Burial will take place at St. Stephens Cemetery, Stevens Point.

In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society & the Portage County Humane Society. Online condolences may be made at www.bostonfuneralhome.net.
