Photo of the Day: A Mayor & His Cup

Mayor Andrew Halverson takes a lighthearted approach to one of the many nicknames he’s been given in the community.
This re-worked “Mayor McCheese” glass from a McDonald’s collector’s series was given to Halverson by a friend, he said, and sits in his office as a reminder to not let the negativity distract him from his official duties.
“Mayor McSuit” is among the friendlier monikers given by detractors to Halverson, who had owned the men’s clothing store Andrews Ltd. until it closed in 2013 and the mayor declared bankruptcy.
Havlerson announced last week he would need seek a third term as Stevens Point mayor, leaving the field wide open with no announced candidates so far. He said on Tuesday he’s not going to be a lame-duck mayor for the next 10 months because there was “plenty of work left to do” before he leaves office.
Halverson said he’s got plenty of opportunities in the private sector once he leaves office, and also said he’s not discounting public service on the state or federal level in the future, but would not elaborate.
