The remainder of today’s Stevens Point Airshow has been cancelled following a one- plane crash shortly after noon.
Law enforcement and firefighters on the scene are rerouting traffic away from the airport and restricting access to the grounds for the time being.
No word on the extent of injuries or the condition of the pilot. It is unknown whether scheduled events for today’s biennial airshow will continue. A dispatcher from the Portage Co. Communications Center has said no information is being released at this time.
A witness on the scene said the plane suddenly flew directly into the woods near the airport. One medical helicopter, along with the Stevens Point Police Department, Portage Co. Sheriff’s Office, Metro Fire and the Wisconsin State Patrol have responded to the scene.
More as we have it.
