Stevens Point police this afternoon confirmed a 47 year- old male pilot was pronounced dead on the scene after a single plane crash at the Stevens Point airshow.
Detective Sgt. Tony Babl said the man’s identity is being withheld pending notification of family. The cause of the plane crash is still under investigation.
Babl said the crash took place about a thousand feet away from the airport, and no spectators were injured.
Anyone with video or photographs of the plane’s aerobatic maneuvers, or subsequent crash, is asked to contact the Stevens Point Police Department at 715-346-1500. Police say any video or photographic evidence could help authorities it is determined what caused the crash.
Babl said the Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board have taken over the investigation.
