The Village of Whiting on Tuesday announced it would reconstruct a portion of School Street between Elm and West Cedar streets.
Crews will tear apart the road, rebuild a shoulder and cover the roadway with 3 1/2 inches of blacktop tentatively beginning on June 10th. The project is expected to take about one week, weather permitting.
The School Street neighborhood is home to McDill Elementary and heavily traveled by pedestrians, including dog-walkers and young children. Village President Paul Stroik has asked motorists always use caution in that area, but is asking for heightened awareness during the construction.
The road will remain open for residents, school employees and the community garden.
“Your cooperation and patience are appreciated during the project to ensure safe working conditions, and a timely completion of this project,” Stroik said in a news release.
